Perth’s Iconic Indiana Brings Latin Party to Cottesloe as Part of Temporary Summer Reactivation

Aptly named Indigo Oscar after the phonetic initials (I-O) for the Indian Ocean, a temporary pop-up concept will be created inside Indiana’s expansive restaurant area, offering panoramic views of the coast from every angle.

Designed and delivered by Tattarang’s lifestyle division Z1Z, Indigo Oscar will offer diners an immersive environment rich with lively tunes and the bright flavours of Central and Southern America.

Targeting an early November launch, Indigo Oscar will trade across Perth’s summer months before Tattarang’s property arm Fiveight transforms the iconic site to deliver a new chapter for Indiana.

Indigo Oscar is one of the first major projects for Z1Z Culinary Manager Tom Haynes since joining the company in July.

Prior to joining Z1Z, Mr Haynes spent more than 12 years working in some of the UK and Australia’s leading restaurants, most recently as Executive Head Chef of Sydney’s award-winning Barangaroo House, owned by Matt Moran and Solotel.

Mr Haynes said Perth diners can expect summer-ready flavours influenced by the cuisines and cultures of Central and Southern America across a short, sharp menu.

“Just as Indiana has been a place for all Western Australians, we want to make sure our menu is accessible and has something for everyone,” Mr Haynes said.

“We have dishes starting from just $8 and our late-night weekend menu means guests can enjoy a great meal and a drink well into those balmy Perth evenings.

“Dishes will draw on their Latin roots but showcase our amazing Western Australian produce. Think kingfish ceviche with roasted bell peppers and zingy lime, woodfired king prawns with burnt lemon and oregano, and decadent chocolate empanadas with panela sugar.

“Our dishes have a focus on origin and seasonality, a nod to our waterside location and with lots of woodfired flavours.”

The planned beverage menu features a mix of boutique wines plus a punchy cocktail list with local beers and international favourites.

Z1Z Hospitality General Manager Alan Ford said Indigo Oscar was an opportunity for Perth to celebrate the end of an important chapter for Indiana before a new one starts.

“It’s hard to meet anyone in Perth who doesn’t hold a special memory of this iconic location in Cottesloe, and we want to give Western Australians new moments to celebrate ahead of Indiana’s transformation,” Mr Ford said.

Head of Fiveight John Meredith said the people of Perth will get to see the final vison for the next chapter of Indiana later in the year.

“We know Indiana is important to all Western Australians and we are focused on delivering a sustainable future for the site – one that ensures its cultural significance is retained and much needed improvements for everyone visiting Cottesloe Beach are delivered,” Mr Meredith said.

“This is about delivering a world-class outcome for Perth, and for generations of visitors to come, and we look forward to sharing our vision with the entire community.”

As in previous years, Fiveight has also committed to reactivating the dedicated kiosk within the Indiana site. Joining Indigo Oscar for the coming summer will be a new café concept called Ol’ Buoy, developed by the operators of Cottesloe’s famed Daisies café and Floreat’s some-day café.

Ol’ Buoy is expected to open in November with a focus on artisan coffee and simple beach-side treats.

Indigo Oscar will open Wednesday to Sunday – Lunch & Dinner from 12pm to 9pm, with a late-night bar menu available from 9pm – 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
